Thoughts and notes from Dr. Thomas Weekly's message on 3-3-11 at WKU's CRU.
Lie #1
I can't be truly happy or fulfilled unless I am in a dating relationship or marriage relationship. (Lie of discontentment)
Passages of Scripture: 1 Cor 7:24, 27-28, 32-35
Solution: Learn contentment now in Christ. See Phil 4:7
Lie #2
If I find Mr./Ms. Right, then all will be perfect! (Lie of the Idea)
Passages of Scripture: Ps 139 (Talks about the image of God, we are fearfully and wonderfully made), and Prov 31:10-31
Solution: Don't look for Mr./Ms. Right, be Mr./Ms. Right.
Lie #3
We think they think like we think and they think we think like they think! (Lie of communication)
-Harvard Preschool study: Essentially girls use 2x more words in a day than guys do.
Solution: Learn to communicate
Lie #4
Sex=Love and Love=Sex (Lie of Intimacy)
Be careful of those who "love it" and want to use you to get "it" because sex will ruin a good relationship or prolong a bad one.
Solution: Pursue friendship in a relationship and a Godly love.
Love vs. Infatuation
Grows over time Sudden
Appraisal of total person Primarily outward appraisal
Other centered Self-Centered
One person focused Multiple person focused
Constant over time and distance Varies with time and distance
Faces problems (Tries to solve them) Neglects them (Ignores them)
One thing Main thing
Godliness is developed Godliness is void
Lie #5
It does not make any difference who I date as long as I date. I am not going to marry them. (Lie of Stupidity)
Passage of Scripture: 1 Cor 6:14-16
Solution: Pursue Christ First!
